Some of New Zealand's top sailors face an anxious wait as the selectors decide which crews will sail at September's world championships in Cadiz, Spain.
Yesterday they announced the entries for the pre-Olympic regatta in Athens in August, but will wait until early next month before naming the additionalcrews for Cadiz.
The entries include triple Olympic medallist Barbara Kendall.
While crews will gain valuable time on the Olympic course at Athens, they can book country-qualifying spots for the Games at the world championships.
The winners at last week's Olympic sail regatta have, as expected, all been named for the pre-Olympics but some, including world 470 champions Simon Cooke and Peter Nicholas, have yet to be named for Cadiz.
The entries for the worlds will take into account the Sail Auckland, class nationals and Olympicsail events.
Named for the pre-Olympics -
Finn: Clifton Webb. 470: Simon Cooke/Peter Nicholas. 470 women: Shelley Hesson/Linda Dickson. Europe: Sarah Macky. 49er: Dan Slater/Nathan Handley. Laser: Robbie McMillan. Mistral: Jon-Paul Tobin. Mistral women: Barbara Kendall. Tornado: Aaron McIntosh/Mark Kennedy. Star class to be named after Spa regatta in May. Yngling class named after next month's Hyeres regatta.
The above crews, with the exception of the men's 470, will sail at the worlds. Andrew Brown/Jamie Hunt are the early 470 nomination.
