New Zealand are on the brink of securing two more Olympic spots on the final day of the world yachting championships in Cadiz today.
Andrew Murdoch is almost certain to secure a place in the Laser class while the women's 470 crew of Shelley Hesson and Linda Dickson are on thethreshold.
Murdoch's placing dropped from fifth to ninth after a 22nd and 14th in yesterday's races.
With just one race to go he is still well inside the bracket needed to qualify.
The other New Zealanders in the class, Robbie McMillan, Rod Dawson and Michael Bullot, are 36th, 37th and 48th.
The women's 470 crew are 17th overall, just within the range needed to qualify.
They will need to maintain their current position in the last race today to achieve that.
Finn sailors Clifton Webb and Peter Fox have finished 28th and 32nd overall in a fleet of 82.
With a number of countries already qualified in the class, Webb's result was enough to secure New Zealand a place at the Olympics.
A trial will now held to determine who will take up that Finn spot.
The Tornado crew of Aaron McIntosh and Mark Kennedy are 24th overall and still have a long shot of an Olympic spot.
