Yachting: Optimist sailors take team trophy

New Zealand have won the highly-regarded teams title at the Optimist world yachting championships in Ecuador.

Spearheaded by Wakatere Boating Club sailor Paul Snow-Hansen, who finished second, and Daniel Willcox, of Murrays Bay, who was fourth, New Zealand clinched the team trophy with Poland second and Italy third.

Snow-Hansen was beaten for the general individual title by China's Wei Ni. Spaniard Eugenio Diaz was third.

New Zealand's Susannah Pyatt finished fifth in the women's section, which was won by Germany's Tina Lutz.
