News Corp claimed their first win in the round-the-world race tonight, taking out the sixth leg from Miami to Baltimore.
Under full main and spinnaker, the Australian entry gybed their way along the Patapsco River, dodging shallows and wind holes, before crossing the finish line in a rapidly fading
breeze.
Grant Dalton's Amer Sports One was second, nearly half-an-hour after News Corp. Twenty minutes later, Assa Abloy edged out overall leaders illbruck to finish third.
The top four boats spent the last 120 nautical miles almost within sight of each other.
However, it was News Corp who found the extra line of pressure to take a three-mile lead over the fleet late in the 875-nautical-mile leg.
Despite the stop-start sailing, News Corp pushed on with the light downwind conditions, fending off Amer Sports One who came within three boats lengths of them late in the race.
The next leg to La Rochelle starts on April 28.
