Blair McLay is the best-placed Kiwi yachtie after the first day of the ISAF Youth World Championships in Korea.
McLay is in sixth place in the Laser fleet of 36 being dominated by European sailors.
Spain, France, Italy and the Netherlands make up the top four.
McLay managed to pulltogether a tidy performance to sail through the fleet to win the last race.
He is sailing well and just needs to add more aggression after the first two races, says coach Ian Neely.
Olivia Powrie is 12th in the singled-handed Laser Radial, having placed eighth, 21st and sixth in her three races. Paige Railey of the US leads with two wins and a second.
Peter Burling and Bruce Kennedy, of Tauranga, are in 12th spot in the 420 boys' fleet, and Georgina Hill and Michelle Kennedy are 18th in the girls'.
Antonio Cozzolino is 16th in the boys' Mistral and Steffanie Williams is 12th.
Both of the board sailors are from Auckland's Kohimarama club.
