Yachting: Maxi breaks record

With several New Zealand crew on board, the 140ft super maxi Mari-Cha IV broke the 100-year-old Transatlantic Race record.

The yacht completed the 2925-nautical-mile passage across the North Atlantic between New York and the Lizard in nine days, 15 hours, 55 minutes and 23s, more than two days faster than the record set by Charlie Barr on the 185ft Atlantic a century ago.

Charles Brown and Bill Buckley's 100ft New Zealand entry Maximus finished three hours after Mari-Cha.
