Sarah Macky managed two top-10 results on the opening day of the Europe class regatta at the world yachting championships in Cadiz, Spain, today.
She lies seventh overall after a sixth and fourth in the day's first two races, while fellow New Zealander Kate O'Brien scored a 25th and a34th for 57th overall to stay in the top half of the fleet.
The championships got underway officially today with 116 sailors competing in the Europe class.
Nearly 50 New Zealanders will compete in the championships over the next fortnight.
As well as being a world championship regatta for each of the 11 Olympic sailing classes, it is a key regatta for next year's Athens Olympic qualification.
New Zealand have already secured a place in three classes -- both men and women's mistral and men's 470.
New Zealand results:
Europe (after 2 races, 116 entries): Sarah Macky 7th, Kate O'Brien 57th
