New Zealand's Kevin Shoebridge has guided Team Tyco to the head of the field on day two of the round-the-world yacht race.
As the fleet skirted the notorious Bay of Biscay, Shoebridge and his crew assumed the role of pacesetters just ahead of pre-race favourite, illbruck.
Sailing around 20 nautical miles astern,
but at times up to two knots faster last night, were a trio of yachts, djuice, Amer Sports Too and Team News Corp.
The fleet of eight has already split in two. Most have headed west, while illbruck and SEB have gybed and are heading south.
The pace was slow on the second day with breezes of five to six knots.
Team News Corp skipper Jez Fanstone said the fleet was spread over 50 miles, 70 miles west of Ushant, an island off the coast of France.
"It is raining and we are sitting in a very light patch of wind.
"We expect the wind to pick up. Life is good, we are settled in and have had some proper food.
"The fleet has selected two routes ... There is not much chance of changing when you have decided."
