Overall around-the-world yacht race leaders illbruck are in front today as the seven-boat field emerge from two days of light winds.
At 43 miles ahead of second-placed ASSA ABLOY, the German entry should cross the line tomorrow to win the seventh leg in the old port town of La Rochelle, on
the west coast of France.
ASSA ABLOY have a slight five-mile lead on New Zealander Kevin Shoebridge's team Tyco in the 3400-mile leg which began in Annapolis, on the east coast of the United States on April 28.
Back in fourth are SEB, who are 100 miles south of illbruck but only 69 miles behind them.
There is almost nothing between 5th and 6th place yachts: Grant Dalton's Amer Sports One and the Australian entry News Corporation. Both trail illbruck by 76 miles.
The wind is expected to hold at 10 to 15 knots over the next day, with 2.5m-3m swell. The nine-leg race will finish in Kiel, Germany in June.
