Three New Zealand Olympic hopefuls slipped back but still earned top-10 placings when the ranking regatta off Hyeres, France, finished over the weekend.
Olympic nominee Tom Ashley, who had led through most of the regatta, finished fourth and seventh in his last two races to slip to second overall.
It was neverthelesshis best result since winning the 2002 junior world championships.
Sarah Macky, who enjoyed a hat-trick of wins on day three in the Europe Class, had an unfortunate tangle with the Chinese competitor on the start line of the final race to end the last day with eighth and 25th placings, leaving her fifth overall.
A third Olympic nominee, Hamish Pepper, was eighth in a strong Laser field, slipping two places on the last day when the top section of his mast bent and he placed 10th and 32nd.
In the 470 men's class, Simon Cooke and Alistair Gair were the top New Zealanders, finishing in 11th overall position, while Shelley Hesson and Linda Dickson were top women, also in 11th. Melinda Henshaw and Jan Shearer were 19th.
Dean Barker was over the line at the start in the Finn Class, which dispelled any chance of him finishing in the top 10. He was 14th overall, with Peter Fox finishing two places back.
In the Yngling Class, Sharon Ferris and team-mates battled with rivals Alesha Thorpe and her team.
Ferris' team had a second placing on the last day of racing to end the regatta one place ahead of Thorpe, in 16th and 17th positions respectively.
Meanwhile, the Olympic hopes of Rohan Lord and Andrew Taylor took a knock at the Star world championships off Gaeta, Italy.
They were 17th and 22nd in races four and five, which saw them drop from eighth to 17th with one race remaining.
They will need a good finish to qualify New Zealand for one of the four spots left to complete the field at Athens in August.
