Peter Fox had the start he would have hoped for yesterday as he led the New Zealanders in day one of the first of two Olympic trial regattas for the Finn class in Spain.
Fox finished the day in eighth place, four points in front of New Zealand rival Clifton Webband nine ahead of Dean Barker, who were 13th and 14th respectively.
The combined results of this regatta and the Finn European championships will determine which sailor will be considered by Yachting NZ's nomination panel for the Olympics.
Sarah Macky, who won the Auckland trials and has been nominated in the Europe class, was 13th after two races. In the men's Laser, Olympic nominee Hamish Pepper was 19th overall. In the women's 470, Shelley Hesson and Linda Dickson were 16th and Melinda Henshaw and Jan Shearer 23rd.
In the Yngling class, Sharon Ferris and her crew were fourth (28 points) and Alesha Thorpe and her crew were eighth (33 points), and in the Tornado catamaran, Aaron McIntosh and Mark Kennedy were 15th.
