Australian navigator Adrienne Cahalan has helped Brazilian yacht Brasil 1 to the lead in the Volvo Ocean Race.
The only female in the yacht race, Cahalan guided Brasil 1 through 50-knot winds and huge swells that rocked the fleet on the first night out from Vigo, Spain. And on daythree of the first leg to Cape Town, Brasil 1 led narrowly from Dutch yacht ABN AMRO 1.
Australian entry Brunel Sunergy, skippered by Grant Wharington, was among the three boats forced back to shore for repairs after first-night storms.
