British billionaire Robert Miller and his predominantly New Zealand crew on Mari Cha IV have broken a second sailing record in their Atlantic crossing from New York to Lizard Pt off the southwest coast of England.
Mari Cha IV completed the 4707km journey in 6 days, 17 hours, 52 minutes and39 seconds, beating the existing record by over two days.
Mari Cha IV had already smashed the 24-hour sailing record during the crossing.
Former Team New Zealand designer Clay Oliver helped design the 140ft super yacht, and the mast and sails were constructed in Auckland.
Next year, the Mari Cha IV team plan to launch an attempt to become the first monohull to sail around the world in under 80 days.
