Tennis: Kuerten quits cup team

Former world No 1 Gustavo Kuerten has quit Brazil's Davis Cup team, upset over the change of captain and the Brazilian tennis federation's lack of player development.

Kuerten, a three-time French Open champion, started playing for Brazil in 1996 and has a 29-14 record. But he will not play next month when Brazil host Paraguay in an Americas zone group-one tie.

"We [the players] were not consulted on the venue or the change of captains," Kuerten said.

He said his decision was one of the toughest he had made in his career.
