Lleyton Hewitt reached a career-high ranking of world No 3 yesterday, hours after his ruthless demolition of Pete Sampras in the US Open tennis final.
Hewitt's maiden Grand Slam triumph enabled the 20-year-old from Adelaide to take the place of last year's US Open champion, Marat Safin, in the ATP rankings.
Brazil'sGustavo Kuerten, this year's French Open champion, leads the rankings, followed by Australian Open champion Andre Agassi. Australian Pat Rafter and Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero round out the top five.
