Sydney's Olympic Stadium will have roofs over the shrunken northern and southern stands in time for the rugby World Cup after an agreement was finally struck between the stadium's stakeholders.
Designs for the A$20 million ($21.90 million) roof had to be changed after concerns it would overshadow the playing surface andaffect the quality of the grass.
The size of the roof will be reduced by about a third, but the chief executive of the stadium, Ken Edwards, said 70,000 of the 79,795 seats would be under cover.
The stadium had a capacity of 110,000 for the Olympics in 2000, but seating at the northern and southern ends was reduced on economic grounds in 2001.
