MUNICH (AP) The German ski federation says Susanne Riesch has undergone surgery to remove a bone spur from her left knee and is expected to return in mid-December.
The younger sister of Olympic champion Maria Hoefl-Riesch was injured last week in training but raced in Saturday*s slalom in Levi,Finland.
It was her first race in more than two years. Riesch broke her leg and tore ligaments in her left knee in a crash in downhill training in September 2011.
The surgery was conducted Monday and the ski federation expects a three-week break from training, with the Courchevel race in France on Dec. 17 as the target date for her return.
