Odds this afternoon put the Hurricanes as favourites at $1.42 with the Highlanders at $2.70.
A big bet came from Northland today with someone in the Bay of Islands betting $10,000 on the Hurricanes lifting the trophy.
A TAB spokeswoman said turnover for the game so far emulated an All Blacks test.
Fans with tickets to the game will be watching the sky and hoping forecast showers pass through the capital by kick-off time.
Those who missed out on tickets can watch on a big screen at a family friendly fanzone in Shed 6 on Queens Wharf in Wellington's CBD.
The capital's deputy mayor Justin Lester said the free screening will allow fans of both teams to enjoy the excitement.
"Having grown up in Southland, I'm also proud to say that Highlanders fans will be welcome to join us for this huge occasion."
The doors will open at 6.30pm.
"There won't be any alcohol on sale and it'll be a family atmosphere -- we urge those who want to party while watching the big game to head to one of the many great bars in the city," Mr Lester said.
Hurricanes chief executive James Te Puni said the fanzone was a way to enable more fans to be part of the "fantastic occasion".
