It's official - Richie McCaw joins Facebook

It took some convincing from Dan Carter, but All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw has finally joined social media.

McCaw joined Facebook this afternoon, with his page sitting at 120,000 likes.

Unlike several former social media accounts bearing his name, this one is the real deal - being verified by Facebook with the blue tick.

His first post is a photo with his fellow All Blacks loose forwards and the William Webb Ellis Cup.

Carter had earlier posted a photo asking fans to guess what he had convinced McCaw into doing, raising speculation over whether he had talked McCaw into delaying his expected retirement.

As for his playing future, McCaw remained coy on the subject after the World Cup final.

"I still don't want it to end, to be honest. I'm still part of this team. I'm going to enjoy today. How could you get enough of this? I'll worry about that after today. I'm just going to enjoy having played the World Cup final with a wonderful bunch of men. I'm so proud of wearing this jersey again today. I don't think you can have enough of it. Why would you ever call it a day?"
