LONDON - Nick Evans kept a smile on his face today even though his chance of playing for the All Blacks in Monday morning's (NZ time) rugby test against England here remained deep in the doubtful basket.
Otago first five-eighth Evans sat out training today to continue therepair process on his hamstring muscle, which he had strained 24 hours earlier.
First choice No 10 Daniel Carter ran in his place and will fill the role at Twickenham unless Evans can make a rapid recovery.
Evans' frustration wasn't evident when he recalled that the strain occurred simply while he was running, for no apparent reason.
"When you're white and you're fast and you've got chicken legs it's one of those things, you get hamstring problems," he said.
"My hamstrings could be a work-on over summer."
He was moving more freely today and remained hopeful he would pass a fitness test tomorrow, after which a final decision would probably be made.
"I'm always confident but we'll see we'll just see how I come through. I want to be 100 per cent, I don't want to go out there and let the guys down."
