Michael Brown: What signing Issac Luke means for Warriors

The Warriors have tried for years to find the right recruitment formula.

They've gone from being a buying club to a development club and back again so many times fans have got dizzy. The recruitment of Issac Luke represents another approach.

The signing of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Luke are encouraging. The pair are two of the best players in their position, crucially play within the spine (Nos 1, 6, 7, 9) and are marketable. They are also Kiwis.

Too often the Warriors have failed in their bid to secure top Australians. They have always struggled to attract the very best and have often had to pay over market rate to get the ones they do.

The Kiwis' win over Australia in last weekend's Anzac test is being trumpeted as the start of a period of New Zealand dominance. They need a few more wins before they can truly lay claim to that, however, the signs are good.

The Warriors should be targeting the best New Zealand players. They should be emphasising their New Zealand heritage. And if they can achieve success, others would be more inclined to join the club.

They might miss out on the Jason Taumalolos from time to time but it needs to be remembered there are 15 other clubs jostling for talent and waving cash around.

The Warriors will still need a few hardened Aussies to keep things together on and off the field. Structure is a big part of the game and good professionals like Steve Price, Kevin Campion, Brent Tate and now Ryan Hoffman are essential.

With the Warriors sign Luke, recruitment will surely get easier.
