“The Deaths have a long road ahead, and we’d love to support them in any way we can. We don’t know his full recovery path yet, but with your help and positive thoughts, we know he’ll get through this.”
Death was a fan-favourite at the Warriors, where he played 55 of his 201 career games between 1999-2001.
In 1999, he won the Warriors Player of the Year award.
He was well known for the nickname “Dr Death”, and there was a “Death Row” section at Mt Smart where fans would wear Grim Reaper costumes in support.
In 2001, he was part of the Warriors side that reached the NRL finals for the first time, which resulted in a defeat to the Parramatta Eels.
Along with the Warriors, he also played for the Canberra Raiders, North Queensland Cowboys and South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Since retiring, Death has been running a gym, north of Sydney. He has four kids.
Former Warriors coach Ivan Cleary is his brother-in-law.
