Rugby league: Wests Tigers tell Robbie Farah he's unwanted for next year

Robbie Farah is set to join a long line of quality players shown the door by Wests Tigers.

Farah has been informed he is unwanted beyond this season by the troubled club, who are currently sitting last on the NRL ladder.

The skipper's impasse with the joint venture is almost certain to see him exit Concord at the end of the year, with coach Jason Taylor claiming the move has been made to offset salary cap dramas.

But the Tigers have a long history of letting quality players go, who then move on to succeed at other NRL clubs.

At the top of that list this year has been Canberra playmaker Blake Austin, who has put in a string off eye-catching performances to put himself in the frame for NSW State of Origin selection next season.

Austin was let go by the Tigers at the end of 2014, despite still being under contract.

Another player who has gone on to bigger and better things is Melbourne winger Marika Koroibete.

The Fijian winger was also under contract at Concord but allowed to go elsewhere last season.

Andrew Fifita represents another poor retention tale. The Cronulla forward has gone on to represent NSW and Australia since leaving the joint venture.

And Fifita had some advice for Farah on Wednesday.

"It's ok @robbiefarah you might as well join the sharks lol, we got all your mates at the club anyway #upupcronulla #loveagoodjoke," Fifita tweeted, referring to the likes of his twin brother David, backrower Chris Heighington and three-quarter Blake Ayshford who have all done well, thanks very much, since shifting from Concord to the Shire.

Premiership winner Benji Marshall was also seen as surplus to requirements by the Tigers. But after an ill-fated liaison with rugby union, the livewire playmaker has been reborn with St George Illawarra and moved them to within touching distance of the finals.

Adam Blair struggled in his time with the Tigers but has become a genuine game-breaking forward under Wayne Bennett at the Broncos this year.

Beau Ryan, Tim Moltzen and Bryce Gibbs are other notables who have been given their marching orders by the club.
