NRL: Injury blow for Luck

The Warriors have been dealt another injury setback with veteran forward Micheal Luck set to spend more on the sideline.

Luck told Radio Sport that the surgery on his broken left hand suffered in the NRL grand final has been unsuccessful as the screw has ruined the bone.

Team doctor John Mayhew confirmed the setback and said today Luck would now have a bone graft to repair the damage caused.

"It's a setback but that's the way it goes. There's no point worrying about it," Luck told www.warriors.co.nz.

"What's most important to me is doing everything to help the boys get ready for the start of the season.

"I was already starting the season a bit late after the shoulder surgery I had before Christmas. Now it'll just be a bit later."

It emerged in the days after the grand final that Luck, who made a game-high 46 tackles, had played with a broken left wrist for most of the 71 minutes he was on the field in the grand final loss to Manly.

Several days later X-rays revealed a broken scaphoid [bone on the thumb side of the wrist], which he had pinned. He will undergo further surgery and will be out for another 12 weeks, Radio Sport reports.

Luck's injured shoulder, which he also had surgery on, is recovering well.

The 29-year-old is one of the club's most durable players and has missed only 10 of a possible 154 games since making his Warriors debut in 2006.

Luck told APNZ last week that he couldn't wait to get back out on the field after being restricted to just running at training.

"I just can't wait to get back, especially now they're playing this week. The competitive urge starts flowing again."

It's another blow for the Warriors pack with Jacob Lillyman also facing three months on the sidelines.

The Queensland rep tore his right bicep from the tendon early in last Saturday's pre-season match against the Titans.
