The Broncos continued their late-season resurgence last night with David Taylor leading them to a shock victory over the table-topping Dragons in Wollongong.
The victory was Brisbane's third in a row to keep them entrenched in the top eight, while for the Dragons it was their first back-to-back loss of
2009, casting doubts over their ability to secure the minor premiership.
Brisbane looked dead and buried a month ago when they suffered their typical post Origin hangover, but they've bounced back to form when it mattered most and conjured an away win to end an eight-game losing streak against the Dragons.
After belting Penrith 58-24 in Brisbane last week, the Broncos went to Wollongong and did what no other team had managed so far in 2009 - they held the Dragons tryless over 80 minutes.
The shutout means the Dragons have now gone 116 minutes without a try.
Also last night, Parramatta saw off Wests Tigers at the Sydney Football Stadium to register their sixth consecutive NRL win, stamping themselves as the smoking gun of the competition in the process.
Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall set the tone with a moment of genius after 18 minutes when he sold the Eels defence an outrageous dummy before producing a flick pass to Blake Ayshford, who dived over.
The Tigers scored their second four-pointer two minutes later when Beau Ryan reached over in the corner.
The Eels applied sustained pressure and were rewarded with an eight-point try after Bryce Gibbs slid into Luke Burt's back with his knee as the Parramatta winger scored in the 29th minute.
Gibbs was put on report and with usual goalkicker Burt unable to kick, Krisnan Inu booted over the two conversions to level the score.
The second half provided a feast of tries to Inu (his sixth of the season), teammate Jarryd Hayne (after a stunning 50m run), the Tigers' John Morris, Jeff Robson (Eels), Ryan and Hayne.
The Eels move into sixth with the win while the Tigers are seventh.
