A hair follicle test has reportedly cleared suspended Kiwis international Shaun Kenny Dowall of using illicit drugs in the past three months.
The Daily Telegraph report the Sydney Roosters NRL winger returned a clean result after voluntarily taking a test that can detect drug use for up to 90 days, as he looks to beat charges of drug possession after police allegedly caught him with 0.46g of cocaine during a search at Ivy nightclub last month.
It's unclear how or if the clean test result will be of any help in Kenny-Dowall's fight against the charge of drug possession.
The 29-year-old's playing future remains uncertain after the Roosters suspended him indefinitely ahead of his scheduled court appearance on June 21.
The 224-game veteran is off-contract and was set to ink a new four-year deal with the Newcastle Knights before the scandal saw the club withdraw their offer.
His arrest occurred a little more than 24 hours before New Zealand test captain Jesse Bromwich and teammate Kevin Proctor were embroiled in a cocaine scandal following the Kiwis Anzac test loss to Australia in Canberra on May 5.
The Melbourne Storm and Gold Coast Titans stars were banned from playing for New Zealand in the upcoming Rugby League World Cup and received two and four NRL match bans, after CCTV cameras captured them consuming what is understood to be cocaine outside a nightclub. Bromwich also donated his $20,000 test match payment to charity and Proctor was fined $40,000 by Titans.
Kenny-Dowall's latest drama comes after the 20-test international was last year acquitted of domestic violence charges against his former girlfriend Jessica Peris.
