NRL: Kieran Foran fears career may be over

Injured Kiwis international and Parramatta captain Kieran Foran fears he may never play rugby league again.

Foran, out of action with a season-ending shoulder injury, is weighing up his future as he tries to mend his relationship with partner Rebecca Pope.

The 25-year-old five-eighth has moved back into the family home as the pair try to overcome their issues as Foran struggles with a variety of personal problems.

Sydney's Daily Telegraph report that Foran told his manager Paul Sutton that retiring from the NRL was a real possibility as he struggles to overcome mental health issues.

"There's no doubt that being back home is therapeutic for Kieran," Sutton told The Daily Telegraph.

"But there is a lot of water under the bridge and much work to do on his relationship."

Foran has been in a relationship with Ms Pope for seven years, but the pair have endured rocky times of late, with his betting and friendship with former brothel owner Eddie Hayson proving problematic.

They have two young children, Emerson and baby Jordan, who has been hospitalised twice with serious medical problems since his birth six months ago.

Foran took leave from his footballing duties in April, when he checked into a Brisbane rehabilitation centre after a prescription drug overdose, following the collapse of his relationship.

The former Manly Sea Eagles premiership winner exited the treatment centre on May 19 and just hours later close to $75,000 was lost from a TAB account in Foran's name.

Foran has been in and out of the rehabilitation centre but has been sighted several times in the company of his brother Liam and Hayson at different Sydney and Brisbane nightspots.

He resumed playing for the Eels in the round 11 defeat to Melbourne on May 23 but the shoulder injury forced him from the field and put his footballing future in doubt.
