Former rugby league star Tawera Nikau confirmed today he is to remarry.
Huntly-based Nikau, whose wife Letitia took her life in England in 2001, confirmed his engagement but wouldn't reveal the identity of his partner.
He did say his fiancee worked in information technology and wasn't from the Waikato.
The
man who two years ago lost his right leg below the knee after crashing his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, said he popped the question while in Fiji recently.
"We were in Fiji. It was romantic, yes," Nikau said.
"It's good to be in love. I didn't think I'd feel this way again. I'm very happy."
Nikau, who returned to Huntly to bring up children Heaven-Leigh and Tyme after Letitia's death, played 19 tests for the New Zealand national side and won a National Rugby League championship with the Melbourne Storm.
Nikau said few people knew about the relationship.
"I like to keep my private life quiet."
No wedding date has been set.
