Warriors fullback Glen Fisiiahi once again underlined the depth the club has with an astonishing six-try haul as the Auckland Vulcans beat Western Suburbs 42-20 in today's third-round New South Wales Cup clash at Campbelltown Stadium in west Sydney.
The win was the first of the season for both theVulcans and new coach Ricky Henry after earlier defeats against the Newcastle Knights and the Windsor Wolves.
With Kevin Locke holding down the Warriors' NRL fullback job at the moment, Fisiiahi is determined to keep the pressure on with his performances for the Vulcans.
He had two of the side's four tries as they led 22-0 at halftime and then scored four tries in the second half to propel the Vulcans into a commanding 42-0 lead. He might have had nine tries but was called back three times for alleged infringements.
Having secured such a commanding lead, the Vulcans buttoned off rather than keeping the foot applied to the throat. The upshot was that Wests scored the last 20 points of the contest to limit the damage in their third consecutive loss.
Earlier Warriors second-rower Sam Lousi and prop Herman Retzlaff, who was in the club's wider NRL squad in 2009, scored the Vulcans' other tries in the first half. Winger DJ Collier landed five conversions.
The Vulcans are at home to Manly next weekend. The Sea Eagles beat Windsor 30-24 today.
In other completed matches, Illawarra beat Balmain Ryde Eastwood 38-18, Canterbury-Bankstown had a 42-16 win against North Sydney and Newtown beat Cronulla 22-4.
