Rowing: Universities to race through central Hamilton

Cambridge University has accepted a challenge from Waikato University for a rowing race through central Hamilton on September 1.

Waikato University vice-chancellor Bryan Gould, a former Oxford don, hopes Hamilton's version will replicate the famous Oxford-Cambridge race along the Thames which attracts thousands of spectators.

Oxford has confirmed it would challenge next year. The annual race winner will hold the Harry Mahon Memorial Trophy, named after the legendary New Zealand and Cambridge University coach who died last year of cancer.
