As he farewells Alamosa from his stable, Caulfield trainer Mick Price has welcomed another New Zealander, Old Jock, to his team.
Alamosa finished 11th, three lengths from the winner Vision And Power, in Saturday's Doncaster Mile at his last start.
The 4-year-old is scheduled to be flown home to New
Zealand on Monday in preparation for a stud career this spring.
A triple group one winner in New Zealand when in the care of Peter McKay at Matamata, Alamosa was purchased last year for $5 million by a group headed by Bill Gleeson of Wellfield Lodge Stud.
He was sent to Price and boosted his stallion stocks with victory in the Toorak Handicap in the spring.
Old Jock, who was brought to Australia by trainer John Sargent, was transferred to Price with a Brisbane campaign in mind.
The gelding was third to fellow Kiwi Harris Tweed in the Tulloch Stakes before finishing seventh to Roman Emperor in the AJC Australian Derby, beaten less than three lengths.
"He's joined the team," Price said. "He is having a week in the paddock and we'll head towards the QTC Derby."
Old Jock comes to the Caulfield trainer with two wins and four placings from just nine starts.
Price, who is enjoying one of his best seasons in Melbourne, is hoping to take a strong team to Brisbane, including in-form mare Miss Maren and smart sprinter Rightfully Yours.
Brisbane Cup hopeful Queen Of Queens, a close third at Randwick on Saturday will join them.
