Hi Flyer and Charaad drew attention to their prospects at Taupo on Sunday when they returned good time in training at Matamata yesterday.

Galloping on a good sand, Hi Flyer (Rastrick) and Charaad (O. Bosson) cut out 1000m in 1:04.2 and quickened over the final 600m in 36.2. They are in forward condition for the weekend.

Madamvizelle (.T Harris) had the better of The Gambler (Betty) when finishing solid work over 1000m in 1:04.5, the final 600m in 37.6. Velvet And Satin (C. Lammas) and Dab (Hain) were keen through the early stages of 1000m in 1:02.8 and steadied for the final section in 37.5. The pair of promising fillies from last season are headed for Taupo.

On the course proper, which was slow 18 metres out, Solis (O. Bosson) prepared for Saturday's Wanganui Stakes when partnering Xbert (T. Harris) over 1000m in 1:08.2 and 600m in 38.7. Xbert, a two-year-old stakes winner at Riccarton last season, showed up in a recent trial and goes to Taupo on Sunday.

Nordic Dancer (Dowling), who may resume at Ellerslie on Saturday, covered 1200m in 1:23 and 600m in 40.8. She has also had the benefit of a trial.

The most impressive trialist on the course proper was last season's classy two-year-old Naturo (O. Bosson), who had the measure of Burning Desire (Coleman) over 800m in 50.6 and 600m in 37.8. Naturo is coming to hand well as she prepares for the Highview Stakes on September 23.

Kenny Starfighter (Colgan) completed his preparation for Hawera tomorrow with a steady 1000m in 1:11.4 and 600m in 41.2.

Back on the sand, Sharp Great Northern Steeplechase candidate Imperial Warrior (P. Brosnan) worked over ground and was timed for the last 1200m in 1:25.2 and 600m in 42. He looks fit for Saturday's big stamina test.

Bold Contact (Gorham) and Tycoon Princess (McKay) worked in good style over 1000m in 1:03.2, the 600m in 37.6. They are likely members of Peter McKay's team heading to Wanganui.

Taupo candidate Patrol (P. Brosnan) left 1200m behind in 1:23.2, the last 600m in 40.9, while Adelariva (Coleman) took 1:20.7 and 38.4 and Chessee (Davidson) 1:23.6 and 38.5.

Forelsa (C. Thornton) and Ooblix (Gregory) ran 1000m in 1:08.6, the 600 in 38.2. Over the same ground Dezigna (Hillis) clocked 1:06.6 and 39.6, and Inertia (Davidson) 1:10.7 and 41.4. Princess Zabeel (C. Ormsby) covered 1200m in 1:23.7, the last 600m in 40.8, while Killur (Coleman) took 1:23.9 and 38.5.

Former Australian racemare Thousand Veils (Wratten) was allowed to stretch out on the all-weather track where she ran her last 800m in 54 and 600m in 40.2.

* Ngahiiti was in brilliant form at Pukekohe yesterday.

Working 5m out on a dead No 1 grass, Ngahiiti (Udy) covered 1000m in 1:2.3, the last 800 in 48 and 600 in 34.5.

It is difficult to believe she is still a maiden; she gets another chance at Ellerslie on Saturday.

Bon Ton Roula (Bertling) galloped 1200m in 1:14.7, the last 1000 in 1:00.5 and 600 in 36.8.

Super Alloy (Judy Collett) and Divining Rod (N. Collett) finished 1200m in 1:17.6, the last 1000 in 1:1.6 and 600 in 35.8.

On the all-weather sand, Mandela (Cooksley) completed 1200m in 1:15.5, the last 1000 in 1:2.2 and 600 in 37.2.

Waikeepadascash (Cooksley) and Cross Lease (Bradley) showed they were progressing nicely by running 1000m in 1:1.2, the final 600 in 37.2.

Johnnie Yetton (Yetton) went 800m in 51.6, the last 600 in 38.6.

* Twinkling and Spit'N Polish galloped attractively at Cambridge yesterday morning when working on the inside of a dead No.2 grass.

Twinkling, with regular rider Rogan Norvall in the saddle, travelled nicely alongside stablemate Spin'n Polish (Laning) over 1000m in 1:1.8, dashing the final 600m in 35.9. Sirius (Callaway) worked in from the 600m in 38.9. Jovial Jock (Lang) hit out freely over 1000m in 1:1.6, finishing off in 36.1. Harvest the Gold (Walsh), a last-start winner, travelled sweetly over 1000m in 1:3.3, coming home in 38. Slavenger (Cheshire) worked in from the 1000m in 1:4.9, the last section in 37.3.

Material Girl (Walsh) and Indominitable (Norvall) were timed from the 600m in 37.6. Viscaya (Hofmann), who has been nominated for the season's opening two-year-old race at Wanganui, looked forward when sprinting 600m in 37. Catchmeifyoucan (Bains) and Phone a Friend (Gedge) were paired over an impressive 800m in 48.2.

Waterhouse (Johansen) worked over 2000m, the last 1200m in 1:19, the final 600m in 38.1. I Rock My World (Gedge) completed 1000m in 1:5.1. Command and Conquer (Clarke) left 1000m behind in 1:2 and 36.3.
