Figure of Speech and James Scott worked well together during a quiet session at Cambridge yesterday.

Galloping on a heavy No 4 grass, Figure of Speech (Brancacova) and James Scott (Whiteman) travelled sweetly
throughout l000m in l:7, completing the final 600m in 39.6.

They are in good order for their Ruakaka engagements on Saturday.

Rarua Road (Peters) was not fully extended when covering l000m in l:l2, the last 600m in 42.l.

Vision (Calder) and Bringbackthebiff (Hills) were timed from the l000m in l:8.l, finishing off in 40.4. Orderman (Ropiha) and That Figures (Houston) were on terms throughout l000m in l:8, the last section in 40.l.

Sirius ( Callaway) came to the end of 600m in 4l. The Old Coot (Wood) strode l000m in l:l0, coming home in 39.8. Del Toro (Callaway), a trials winner last week, came in from the 600m in 40.7.

Working on the sand, Maggie Do (Dromgool) completed the final 600m of her gallop in 39.7.

* Steel Tycoon looked ready for a repeat Ruakaka win when he worked well at Matamata yesterday.

Galloping on a good sand, Steel Tycoon (Coleman) and Egeria (Davidson) were timed for their last 1200m in 1:16.6 and the final 600m in 37.6. Steel Tycoon in particular is in good shape for Saturday's meeting at Ruakaka, where he cleared maiden company impressively last month.

On the course proper, which was slow 25 metres out, Congaline (Sapsworth) prepared for Ruakaka when partnering Olympic Light (Yamaguchi) over 1200m in 1:23.5, the last 600m in 39.2. Stablemates Kyzeel (Upston) and Gilded Light (R Jones) covered the same distance in 1:25.5 and 43.2.

Pinprick (Coleman) was travelling well at the end of 1200m with Gomez (Davidson) in 1:24.5 and 600m in 40.5. They are both likely starters at Awapuni at the weekend.

Sheka (Weatherley), who is headed in the same direction, cut out 1000m in 1:09.2 and her final 600m in 41, while Red Cloud (Tetzlaff) ran the same distance in 1:14 and 44.2.

Pentane, ridden by his trainer Lance O'Sullivan, was among the leading gallopers to make use of the improved track conditions. In a quiet 1000m he hit out, clocking 1:17.8 and the final 600m in 45.5.

Darci Brahma (A Carston) stretched out over 800m in 1:00.6, the last 600m in 45.2, and stablemate Shikoba (Upston) ran the same trip in 1:01.7 and 45.6. Maroofity (Tetzlaff) took 1:15.7 for 1000m and 43.2 for the last 600m, while Zarius (Sapsworth) completed a similar task, and Everswindell (M Carston) came from the 800m in 58.6, quickening for a final section in 40.6.

On the all-weather track, Kristov (T. Thornton) stretched out over the last 800m of his work in 52.7 and 600m in 38.2.

Smart 3-year-old Mon Reve (Tanner) and Tycoon Princess (McKay) cut out 1000m in 1:07.2 and 600m in 37. Game Duchess (T. Thornton) got through solid work with 1200m in 1:26.5 and the last 600m in 40.2.

Good Shot (Wenn) came from the 800m in 53.6 and 600m in 38.2, while Misopinion (Burton) clocked 54.2 and 39. Miss Chevious (De Klerk) covered 1200m in 1:28.6 and 600m in 43.7 and stablemate Love Bite (Wells) followed in 1:25.9 and 42.4.

Back on the sand Bellevue Lass (Dowling) looked well after her winning Avondale run when sent 1200m in 1:28.6, the last 600m in 43.67. She will start at Te Aroha next Wednesday.

First Up Fred (Verry), another bound for Te Aroha, worked well over 1200m in 1:20.8 and 600m in 39.2. One Above Par (Gartner), who cleared maidens on her home track last week and may run at Awapuni on Saturday, took 1:10.8 for 1000m and 41.5 for her final 600m.

Lord Latitude (Tait) worked well over 1000m in 1:05.6 and 600m in 37.2. Tenjuberrymud (A. Carston) covered the same ground in 1:06.6 and 38.7, while Stiletto Queen (K. McQuade) took 1:06 and 39.3 and Humdinger (C. Thornton) 1:06.2 and 38.4.

* Miss Ivy was in smart form in training at Pukekohe yesterday.

Working 6m out on a dead No 1 grass, Miss Ivy (Hutchinson) cut out 800 in 49.3, the last 600 in 36.2.

Prince Chetak (Evans) and Gunners Gold (Bradley) completed 1000m in 1:2.3, the last 600 in 37.1.

Fuelled (Evans) and Co-operator (Bradley) went keenly through the early stages of 1200m and finished in 1:18, steadying for the final 600 in 39.5.

Wingatui jumper Last Frisco (Hapeta), who will race at Awapuni on her way home, did 2000m, the last 1200 strongly in 1:17.8 and 600 in 39.2.

On the all-weather sand, The Sportsman (Hutchinson) and Woodyadance (Weston-Arnold) covered 1400m, pace on only for the last 600 in 37.7.

Mandana (Weston-Arnold) finished 1000m in 1:4, the last 600 in 37.5.

Mandela (Fearon) showed he had lost none of his ability by dashing 600m in 35.8. Ngahiiti (Udy), wearing blinkers, sped 800m in 48.7, the closing 600 in 36.2.
