Racing: Electrostatic heads to Wanganui in good shape

Electrostatic looked ready for a bold effort in the Wanganui Stakes tomorrow when she galloped in good style at Matamata yesterday.

Working on a good sand, Electrostatic (Gregory) worked away quietly from the 1000m mark and was timed from the 800m in 51.6, quickening readily for a final 600m in 37.

The Craig Thornton-trained filly meets a strong field on the weekend but has fitness and wet track form in her favour.

Sharp Great Northern Steeplechase candidate Imperial Warrior was ridden by his trainer Peter Brosnan in his final serious work, finishing two strong rounds on the sand with 1200m in 1:26.3 and 600m in 42.4. He has the services of leading Australian jumps jockey Craig Durden in tomorrow's big event.

Great Northern Hurdles entrant Mr Barrymore (Hercock) did similar work on the all-weather track and was timed over his last 1200m in 1:28.2 and 600m in 39.8.

Back on the sand Princess Zabeel (C. Ormsby) showed her fitness for the maiden stayers event at Taupo on Sunday when she covered 1200m in 1:21.5 and 600m in 38.5. Recent trial winner Apologia (T. Harris) was travelling strongly at the end of 1000m in 1:06.8, the 600m in 37.3.

Hi Flyer (Rastrick) turned in another good workout when partnering Charaad (Tetzlaff) over 1200m in 1:22.2 and 600m in 37.6. He is in forward condition for a bold fresh-up effort at Taupo.

Dezigna (Hillis) was not extended when covering 1000m in 1:07.7 and 600m in 40.2. He is bound to benefit from his outing at Ellerslie.

Madamvizelle (T. Harris) looked ready for a good effort at Ellerslie when running in from the 800m in 50.5 and the 600m in 38.2.

Nordic Dancer (Gartner) worked well within herself over 1200m in 1:22.4 and 600m in 40.2 She is not a certain starter at Ellerslie.

Runarda (Ritchie) was kept sharp for Taupo with 800m in 49.8 and 600m in 36.6, while Lord Latitude did similar work when recording 49.8 and 38.2. Patrol (P. Brosnan) strode over 1200m in 1:23.8 and 600m in 40.5.

Adelariva (Coleman) worked impressively when she led Killur (Davidson) to the end of 1200m in 1:17.3, the last 600m in 37.2.

Star Align (Melton) covered the same distance in 1:20.4 and 37.6, while Kirra Sand (Ramsay) took 1:27.6 and 41.4, and Pedantic (Wright) 1:21.2 and 39.4.

Thousand Veils (O. Bosson) appeared to enjoy her work over 800m in 52.5 and 600m in 38. Danska Mill (Coleman) was not extended over 1000m in 1:08, the 600m in 39, while Delicious (S. Collett) clocked 1:08 and 38.5.

Centapin (Dowling) returned 1:21.8 and 39.4 over 1200m, Waitui Belle (Bridgman) took 1:28.8 and 44, and Destinate (Waddell) ran the last 800m of his work in 58.8 and 600 in 43.2.

* Mandela promised a winning run at Ellerslie tomorrow judged by his final fast gallop at Puikekohe yesterday.

Working on the all-weather sand, Mandela (Cooksley) completed 1200m in 1:16.1, the last 600 under a firm hold in 38.6.

Trainer Richard Yuill has him very close to his best.

Superalloy (Judy Collett) worked quietly away from the 1000m and sprinted the last 600 in 38.

Waikeepadacash (Cooksley) went 1200m in 1:23, quickening for the final 600 in 38.5.

Bon Ton Roula (Bertling) was given an easy 1200m, taking 1:28.5, the last 600 in 42.3.

Rival Ngahiiti (Udy) needed no more than one and a half rounds of pacework after her exceptional gallop on Tuesday.

Old Sox (Shahril), who jumped eight hurdles on Tuesday to earn his certificate, paceworked twice round.

He will race on the flat tomorrow and make his jumps debut at Avondale next Wednesday.

Trainer Don Dwyer galloped his Ellerslie runners, Lazaros and Dead Rabbit, on Wednesday and was happy with their work.

* Mr Multiwin ran a sizzling trial at Cambridge yesterday in his final preparation for Ellerslie this weekend.

Working on the inside of a dead No.2 grass Mr Multiwin (Griffin) dashed 800m in 46.8. He looks at peak fitness.

Jovial Jock (Lang) travelled comfortably throughout 1200m in 1:29, the concluding 600m in 39. D'luvly (McVean) left 800m behind in 50.4. Show A Heart (Cheshire) and a Bertolini colt (German) were on terms at the completion of 1000m in 1:3, the final 600m in 36.9.

Spit'N Polish (Norvall) was given a comfortable 1200m in 1:24.6, coming home in 42.5. Hangover (Griffin) looked ready for a bold showing at Taupo on Sunday when sprinting 600m in 37.3. That Figures (Ropiha) worked nicely over 1200m in 1:19.3, the final 600m in 38.4.

Galloping on the plough stablemates Material Girl (Young) and Indomitable (Satherley) cruised 1000m in 1:9, quickening over the final 600m in 39.3. Quest for Cash (Foote) and Vain Promise (medium weight) completed 800m in 49.5. Harvest the Gold (Satherley) returned 1:21 for 1200m, the 600m in 39.1.

Working on the sand Viscaya (Hazeldon) was given an easy work-out over 600m in 43.1. Double Treasure (Gibbons) ran 600m in 41.4.
