Class mare Diamond Like had twice been well beaten when trying to stretch her stamina index to 1600m, but Sir Patrick Hogan insisted she could make the distance.
Trainer Paul O'Sullivan had his doubts. "I believe what she wants to do is run 1000m down a well," he said as he
bowed to Hogan's wishes and prepared Diamond Like for 1600m at Ellerslie on Saturday.
O'Sullivan was delighted to be proved wrong as Diamond Like raced away from the opposition. Punters misled Punters got a shafting when Let's Planet was given as a scratching for Ellerslie as early as Friday afternoon.
Wellington's Racing Bureau admitted it had inadvertently withdrawn Let's Planet from Ellerslie when the horse was meant to be scratched from Trentham.
Punters missed out - Let's Planet paid $16 and $4.10.
