Arrow turned in a good trial for Te Rapa on the weekend when she worked impressively at Matamata yesterday.

Galloping 25 metres out on a heavy course proper, Arrow (Ikee) was travelling well at the end of 1200m with Romeod (C. Thornton) in 1:24.5, the final 600m in 42.

In
the same form Arrow will be a very good prospect to add to her consistent formline in the Oceanz Seafood 1600 tomorrow.

Race rival Madamvizelle (M. Wenn) was also responsible for smart work when she galloped solo on the sand, which was good. She cut out 1200m in 1:15.2, quickening for a final 1000m in 1:01.6 and 600 in 36.

Farrah (Dowling) drew attention to his first-up prospects at Te Rapa in his gallop with Centapin (Ramsay) over 1200m in 1:20.8 and 600m in 39. The time was not outstanding but the pair got through their work well.

Tosto (O. Bosson) was another not chasing time but still satisfied with 1200m in 1:23.6 and 600m in 39.9. Over the same ground Peterel (Pender) took 1:19.2 and 38, Valley Chief (M. Brosnan) 1:23.8 and 39.2, and Illicitly (Dowling) 1:20.9 and 39.6.

Vinopolis (Collett) looked to have thrived since his recent fresh-up win when covering 1200m in 1:18.8 and 600m in 36.8. He will return to Rotorua next Saturday.

Devoted (C Hain) was not extended over 1000m in 1:10, the last 600m in 41.2, while Te Rapa race rival Royal Entertainer (McFetridge) worked from the 600m in 41.5.

Raadisi (Coleman) ran a tidy 1000m in 1:07.8, the last 600m in 38.6. Multi Tasker (Gorham) ran the same trip in 1:04.2 and 38.2, while Star Alliance (Davidson) took 1:07 and 38.9 and High Flyer (Rastrick) led Wisteria Lane (Tynan) in 1:04.5 and 38.2.

Te Rapa two-year-old entrant Royal Kazak (O. Bosson) was restrained over 1000m in 1:14.2, the final 600m in 42.4. Stablemate Smartway (Wenn) did similar work when running 1200m in 1:28.4 and 600 in 43.2, and Seams of Gold (Russell) was restricted to 1:26.8 and 43.8.

Goldsinga (Coleman) took 1:24.8 for her 1200m, the last 600m in 39.7, while Show Lad (Walker) took 1:28.8 and 42.6. First Up Fred (Verry) and Miss Dux (Gartner) quickened from the 800m in 52.2 and 600m in 38.5. Princess Zabeel (Tetzlaff) took 54.2 and 39, while Malissimo (M. Carston) ran her last 600m in 40.8.

Delta Lady (M. Brosnan) was kept to 1:11.2 for 1000m, the last 600 in 4.1.5. Egeria (Coleman) took 1:25.7 for 1200m and 41.5 for the last 600, Zergar (Davidson) clocked 1:29.7 and 42.8, and Danska Mill (Wratten) 1:32.4 and 44.2.

* Baileys Comet promised to quit maiden ranks at Te Rapa tomorrow judged by his gallop at Pukekohe yesterday when fog again restricted much timing.

Working on the all-weather sand, Baileys Comet was travelling strongly in the finish of 1200m, the last 600 in 38. A soft track and 1600 should suit him ideally.

Cog Hill paceworked for a round and a-half and then quickened at the 800m, sprinting the last 600 in 36.8. A heavy track would see him race in the open 1200 rather than 1600 tomorrow.

Senorita Ivory ran the last 600m of 1200 in 38.5. She favours soft footing.

Kong Kuen and Dipped'n' Grey covered the last 600m of 1000 in 37.5.

Red Sails and Lazaros went 1400m, the last 600 in 38.

Al Vialli was among other Te Rapa acceptors unable to be timed but she looked in good heart after sprinting 600m.

* Grace handled heavy track conditions well in training at Cambridge today.

Working on the No.4 grass Grace (Cheshire) strode comfortably over 1000m in 1:10, increasing speed over the last 600m in 40.1. She has fashioned a good record on rain-affected ground and looks a good chance fresh-up at Te Rapa this weekend.

Dauntless (Seguin) , a model of consistency, looked ready to clear maiden ranks at Te Rapa when working in from the 600m in 40.6. Sharpin (Russell) covered 600m in 41.4. Reigns and Poors (Gould) worked well over 1000m in 1:6.3, sprinting the 600m in 39.2.

Sugarfoot (Seguin) and Jonty Da Scoundrel (Clarke) matched strides over 600m in 39.7. Mr Hefner (Cheshire) was timed to run his last 600m in a comfortable 42.2. La Sizerane (Whitworth) completed 1000m in 1:11.2, coming home in 41.6.
