While the Kiwis league selectors are still awaiting a decision from Jonathan Thurston as to whether he will play for New Zealand, another Bulldog has slipped through the net.
Utility Reni Maitua says he has been approached by the Kiwi selectors but has turned them down.
Maitua said even the urgings of distant relative Nigel Vagana could not persuade him.
He said contrary to popular belief he has no New Zealand heritage.
Maitua said his Samoan father lived in New Zealand for 20 years, but his mother is Australian.
Maitua said he did think hard about it, but in the end his heart would not have been in it.
Maitua said he has copped it from the other kiwi Bulldogs, especially former flatmate and latest Kiwi star Sonny Bill Williams.
