Motorsport: Coulthard in Formula Ford clincher

Aucklander Fabian Coulthard, 19, clinched the national Formula Ford championship with victory in the second race at Taupo yesterday.

He won by just over 2s from fellow Aucklander Simon Gamble, with veteran Kenny Smith third.

Coulthard's closest rival, Brady Kennett of Palmerston North, failed to finish.

A technical problem forced Coulthard to start the first race of the day from the rear of the grid, but he drove through the field to finish fourth.
