Ryan Fox produced one of the rounds of the day to surge up the leaderboard on the second day of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California, the first of the $33 million signature events of the PGA Tour season.
Playing at Pebble Beach Golf Links, the first two rounds alternatewith Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill Golf Course, Fox rebounded from an even par 72 on the opening day to shoot an eight-under 64 and move into a share of 22nd, seven shots off the lead.
The two-time PGA Tour winner ran hot on the front nine, starting with four birdies in his opening six holes before recording a five-under 31 at the turn. Fox then had three more birdies on the back nine, including one at the iconic par five 18th, to complete a bogey-free round.
Only Harris English shot a better round today with a 63.
Fox outduelled playing partner Rory McIlroy, who won at Pebble Beach last year, with the world No 2 firing a 67 to move to nine-under.
American Akshay Bhatia shares the lead at 15-under after an eight-under 64 at Spyglass Hill. Round one leader Ryo Hitsatsune retained the lead with a 67.
American duo Rory Fowler and Sam Burns sit a shot back in a share of third with Australian Min Woo Lee a further shot back at 14-under.
World No 1 Scottie Scheffler is on six-under after a 66 at Spyglass Hill.
