Its an exciting log jam at the top of both divisions as multiple teams hold the perfect record after four rounds of the Toro Interprovincials at the New Plymouth Golf Club.
Waikato, Bay of Plenty and North Harbour all hold a one hundred percent record after two days of impressive
golf and dominant victories. This makes for a dramatic 48 hours with all three teams on the same side of the draw and only two able to progress.
Waikato, who are searching for their third consecutive Toro title, have barely worked up a sweat in their matches thus far (which could be due to the wet and windy weather) by beating Aorangi, Poverty Bay East Coast and Auckland in clinical fashion. Auckland can most likely cancel their weekend accommodation with their loss to Waikato as the extremely tough division one draw strikes early.
Canterbury maintain top spot in division two after defeating Tasman 4-1 in the morning and securing a fighting halve against southern rivals Otago late in the day to hold a 1 point lead in their division.
Outside the perfect records mentioned, the host team Taranaki stole the show with a superb upset win over Northland who have bailed out of contention and will simply have to start preparing to host the tournament in their glorious backyard of Mangawhai next year.
The Taranaki fans rallied around the clubhouse as news spread of their progress. A clutch putt from Andrew Searle on a surrounded eighth green in the morning was the deciding moment as they beat Northland 3-2. Taranaki then went on to score a courageous halve against a strong Wellington side to complete a successful day.
Although they havent had the perfect record, Wellington and Otago are still yet to lose a match which keeps them within striking distance of the semi-finals. They will lock horns Friday morning in what could be a playoff for the second place in division two.
The clash of the morning (and only round of the day) will be Bay of Plenty versus North Harbour as this encounter will put a stop to someones perfect run at the 2016 Toro Interprovincials.
Tee times continue to commence at 7:30am with all teams enjoying an afternoon off at the halfway stage.
