The Kiwi did his best work early in the tournament, beginning the week with a six-under 65. He had a one-over round two, but rebounded from that with a four-under round three.
Fox will now have a week off but is expected to line up in the Cadillac Championship at Trump National in Miami, another one of the tour’s signature events, the following week.
The RBC Heritage was won by Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick, who held off American Scottie Scheffler in a playoff.
Fitzpatrick joined Fox in a tie for fourth after the opening round, but shot into the lead with a nine-under second round.
He stayed in the lead after a three-under third round, before holding off a charge from Scheffler in the final round.
Two late birdies from the American saw him finish with a four-under final round and put pressure on Fitzpatrick at the top of the leaderboard.
Fitzpatrick had kept his card clean for the round, including two early birdies, but with a bogey on 18, he fell to 18-under for the tournament and tied with Scheffler.
However, one playoff hole was all that was needed to separate the two.
Playing the 18th again, Fitzpatrick atoned with a birdie in the playoff to secure the win.
