Inside Jordan Spieth's $13m mansion

Jordan Spieth is in Abu Dhabi this week to take on Rory McIlroy in their first duel of 2016, but it's a wonder he was ever able to drag himself out of his own front door.

Why? Well, take a look around Spieth's new $NZ13 million mansion in Dallas and you'll soon see.

The 22-year-old world No 1 ranked golfer in a whopping $NZ81m during a sensational last year, dethroning Tiger Woods as golf's highest earner, after winning both the Masters and US Open. And, in December, he splashed out on a pad befitting the new king of his sport.

Off the car park there is an indoor basketball court, where Spieth can take on his buddies in shooting some hoops.

The stunning five-bedroom house features a host of luxuries seemingly made for Spieth.
But it is no coincidence that the house seems so well suited to him - it was previously owned by Hunter Mahan, the three-time Ryder Cup player and six-time PGA Tour winner.

The 12-car underground garage is impressive enough in its own right, but look closely and you will spot on one wall a mural dedicated to Augusta National Golf Club, on whose hallowed fairways Spieth won his first major last April.

There is an indoor golf simulator where the Texan can hone his game when he can't face a day trudging round the course, plus a huge indoor gym and beautiful outdoor swimming pool so he can stay fit.

When he's had enough of golf, Spieth can take on his buddies in the indoor basketball court with digital scoreboard (although he'd be better off not asking round to play Ryder Cup pal Dustin Johnson, who stands at 6ft 4in and likes to show off his ability to slam-dunk the ball).

Alternatively, Spieth could hone his ping-pong skills on the table in his new home ahead of the inevitable and highly-competitive matches in the United States team room at the Ryder Cup later this year. Whether his girlfriend, Annie Verret, can be persuaded to play remains to be seen.

Hopefully Spieth has the taste for a good drop of red as his house comes complete with a large wine cellar. Coming from the Lone Star State he almost certainly will have a taste for barbeque, so no doubt the mansion's 'grill room' will be put to good use.

The grill room comes complete with air conditioning, a hood for the grill, a beer fridge close to hand and a counter and sink for meat preparation.

It also appears as though Spieth is as adept at property deals as he is sinking 15ft birdie putts. According to real estate blogger Candy Evans, who revealed the details of Spieth's new home, the golfer also managed to snap it up for just over $7m (£4.9m), meaning a saving of almost $1.5m (£1.1m) on its original listing price.

As palatial as the house is, Spieth has indeed hauled himself away all of 8,064 miles to the UAE for his date with McIlroy at the HSBC Abu Dhabi Championship.

Spieth won his first tournament of the year, the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, by eight shots, becoming only the second player in PGA Tour history to finish a 72-hole tournament at 30 under or lower.

Despite the presence of world No 3 McIlroy in the Middle East, he will be the strong favourite to continue his flying start to 2016 and land the top prize in Abu Dhabi.
Also in the field are Rickie Fowler, Henrik Stenson, Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and more.

Spieth, however, is wary of McIlroy, who sealed his status at European golf's No 1 in Dubai last November despite a turbulent year interrupted by injury.

"In a season that he considered lost, he still came back and ended up winning the Race To Dubai and that proves what a player he is," said Spieth.

"I'm sure there are very few players who have been working harder than he is to make this season his best season yet - and that is scary. Hopefully I can prevent that to an extent."

But how could Spieth ever top last year, in which he broke his major duck, won the next one too, came so close at both The Open and USPGA Championships and reached the summit of his sport?

"I would like to contend in a couple of majors on Sunday and I'd like to win at least one of them," he said.

"I'd also like to represent the United States in not only the Olympics but also the Ryder Cup. It would be great to get a couple of wins, not only for myself but for my country."
