A freak accident sustained at the airport has ruled South African professional golfer, Louis Oosthuizen, out of the Johannesburg Open.
The freak accident would go down as one of sport's most unusual injuries after Oosthuizen jammed his fingers between two airport trolleys as he returned to South Africa from competingat the Mauritius Open.
"This morning is even worse than it was yesterday, so I tried to grip a golf club but there's no way I can go to my grip position," said the 2010 British Open champion in a news conference on Wednesday.
"It's a bit of an unfortunate one, but I don't want to tee off Thursday and play one hole or a few shots and then withdraw after taking someone's spot. You know, I just can't do that. So, I'm going to have to withdraw from this one."
The Johannesburg Open, held at the Royal Johannesburg & Kingston Golf Club, will be the final stop on the European Tour's International Schedule, co-sanctioned by South Africa's Sunshine Tour and the Asian Tour.
The likes of Dylan Frittelli, George Coetzee, Haydn Porteous, Darrwn Fichardt and Dean Burmester will now be fancying their chances at a win in Oosthuizen's absence.
