Bay of Plenty Professional Kieran Muir will enter the final round of the Akarana Open with a monstrous five shot lead in search of his maiden Jennian Homes Charles Tour victory.
In blustery conditions, scoring was difficult yet Muir managed to play consistently to card a round of three under
par (67).
It is no secret Muir has been in this position before and tomorrow we will find out whether he has gained experience from previous Jennian Homes Charles Tour events.
"Nothing changes heading into tomorrow, hopefully things will change from the last two efforts results wise," laughed Muir.
"I have been working hard on what goes on upstairs, so I am excited for tomorrow and am feeling comfortable."
Backing up a round of 61 is always tough, but Muir realised early that he needed to adjust his targets.
"It feels good, I played well in the conditions and stuck to my game plan," said Muir.
"I obviously didn't play as well as yesterday but still hit most of the greens and the putts weren't quite dropping. The wind played a big part because it was blowing in the other direction which made for a challenge."
"I haven't even asked myself that question but I am looking to head over to tour school in Europe and this would be another step in the right direction. The people at Akarana are close to me and I love coming here so it would mean a lot to get it done here."
However, it's common knowledge that there are low scores out there and defending champion Gareth Paddison will be hunting back to back titles. Paddison is joined by Brad Shilton on -10 and with their combined experience, they could apply big pressure on Muir throughout proceedings tomorrow.
Auckland's Brittney Dryland has all of a sudden found herself in the lead at the Akarana Open after back to back solid rounds.
The Titirangi young gun holds a slim one shot lead over professionals Rica Tse and Jenna Hunter in what is simply a three way shootout tomorrow as they are six shots clear of the pack.
Dryland is pleased with her recent form and won't be looking to change anything tomorrow.
"I am very pleased with how I am hitting it at the moment. I have played here enough in the past to know my way round, so it's been a good week so far," said Dryland.
"I won't be changing anything heading into tomorrow and will stick to the game plan and enjoy the chance to play in the final group."
The tournament team has prepared for rain by bringing many squeegees into the clubhouse late this afternoon. Play is to commence at 7:30am in an attempt to beat the rain and complete the tournament with ease.
