Golf: Kiwis in action the world over in busy weekend of golf

It is an exciting weekend of golf ahead with many New Zealand golfers teeing it up on the major world tours.

Danny Lee will be looking to forget about his water troubles at The Players Championship last weekend after struggling at the final hurdles. He finished a good week with back to back double bogeys on the final two holes (arguably the hardest finishing holes in golf) ending in a tie for 35th.

Playing the AT&T Byron Nelson this weekend, Lee will have to go low if he is to take out the title; 21 under par from Steven Bowditch of Australia was the winning score in 2015.

Lee has the consistency and the ability to win, it's just whether he can put it all together this weekend in an attempt to win his second PGA Tour title.

Golf fans will also be keeping a close eye on Tim Wilkinson who is joining Lee at the AT&T Byron Nelson teeing off Friday morning.

Wilkinson was in the thick of the action at the Wells Fargo Championship two weeks ago finishing just behind Lee in a tie for 11th. It was the other way round for most of the week as Wilkinson sat in the top 10 until the final round where he went one over par to drop out of contention. He simply must cash in while he is showing form on the PGA Tour.

After a couple of weeks off Lydia Ko is back to play the Kingsmill Championship alongside the world's best in a very strong field.

Ko may still be the hot favourite (the TAB has her at just $4.50 to win) but world number two Inbee Park and number three Lexi Thompson will have something else to say.

This is her first appearance since Swinging Skirts where she finished a 'quiet' T6, so it somehow feels like a long time between drinks since the world's best last victory at the ANA Inspiration barely a month ago.

Aiming to join Lee and Wilkinson next year is veteran Steven Alker and Josh Geary, who are currently plying their trade on the Web.com Tour.

They are both entered into the BMW Charity Pro-Am and are showing good signs early in the season. Geary posted a very impressive top ten last month at the Servientrega Championship where he finished tied for sixth and will no doubt be looking for something similar as he attempts to complete his dream by making the top 25 to earn his PGA Tour card.

Lawnmaster Classic champion Michael Hendry will peg it up on the Japan Tour this weekend. After what was a solid New Zealand summer where he finished tied third at the BMW ISPS Handa New Zealand Open he then backed it up with a victory in the mighty Manawatu.

Hendry will play at the Kansai Open as he looks to record his first win of the season in Japan.
