Golf: Kiwi Tim Wilkinson secures spot on PGA Tour following strong finish at Korn Ferry Tour

Kiwi golfer Tim Wilkinson has booked his card on next season's US PGA Tour.

Despite a slow start to the week, Wilkinson finished the secondary Korn Ferry Tour's regular season in 24th on the standings, with the top 25 securing spots.

The Manawatū professional now has The Finals 25 on the Korn Ferry Tour, the remaining three events of the year, to prepare for next season's PGA Tour.

Speaking to Radio Sport, Wilkinson revealed it was a difficult run having had to play courses he wasn't particularly fond of, but said in the end, it made it all the more satisfying.

"Historically I have played really poorly at these events and I knew I had to go and try and play, " he said.

"It was a difficult stretch as I was playing some golf courses I don't particularly enjoy playing but I had to go and try my best.

"I was a bit of a limp home ... but I'm very happy to have finished top 25."

Wilkinson said he was excited by the opportunities ahead and by the positives from what he had achieved.

"I've always only ever wanted to play on the PGA Tour," he said. "I want to play against the best players in the world.

"To have another opportunity, as you get older it's exciting, I'm excited about it and I look forward to the opportunity and hopefully I can keep improving as I have over the last little while."

The qualified players now play the tour's finals series to establish end-of-season rankings and the priority order they get for the PGA Tour's first eight tournaments.

Wilkinson will be joined by fellow Kiwi golfer Danny Lee and potentially Steve Alker.
