Timmy Chandler was a constant threat down the right for Nuremberg, but the United States defender went off in 61st after taking a knock to his thigh.
Nuremberg now has the dubious honor of the Bundesliga's longest streak without a win 15 games while the club remains second last before the rest of the 15th round.
"We got the chances to score the second goal but we weren't very lucky," said Nuremberg coach Gertjan Verbeek, who has overseen three losses and three draws since taking over.
Previously only 1860 Munich and Duisberg started without winning in 14 games, in 1977 and 1994 respectively. Both sides won the 15th but were relegated at the end of the season.
