LONDON - Frenchman Arsene Wenger appears to have ruled out ever managing the England national team saying he thinks an Englishman should do the job.
England head coach Steve McClaren faces the prospect of losing his job if his side fail to qualify for next year's Euro 2008finals, but Wenger told FourFourTwo magazine he was not interested in the position even if it was offered to him.
Wenger, 58, who has been Arsenal manager for 11 years, said in the interview: "I manage in England and I hope I can help English football but the national team should be managed by an English guy.
"If I'm manager of England and I play France, which anthem do I sing?"
He also reiterated his opposition to FIFA ideas on limiting the number of foreign players in domestic leagues even though the idea is against EU law.
"I find them utter rubbish," he said.
"I think that sport is just because it rewards the best. You could be my son, but if you're not good enough, then you don't play at Arsenal."
Wenger however said one rule he would like FIFA to introduce is that only the captain be allowed to speak to the referee.
"When you have a billion people watching and you can read the lips of a player saying 'You're ... rubbish' to a referee it does nothing for our game.
"Changing that rule would have a more positive effect than all the charities we do at the club."
