The Wellington Phoenix have added over 370 games of experience to their squad for the upcoming A-League season, signing former Socceroos attackers Mitch Nichols and David Williams.
Wellington will be 29-year-old Nichols' fifth A-League club, having spent six seasons at Brisbane Roar as well as representing Melbourne Victory, Perth Glory and Western Sydney. He won the A-League Championship with Brisbane in both 2010/11 and 2011/12 and also had a brief stint with Japanese club Cerezo Osaka.
In 219 A-League games, Nichols has scored 36 goals and he also appeared five times for Australia, most recently in 2013. He has signed for two years with the Phoenix.
Williams, 30, clocked up 152 A-League appearances across eight seasons, 101 of those for Melbourne City in a five-year stay, having also appeared for Brisbane Roar and North Queensland Fury. He has scored 29 A-League goals and has most recently been playing in Hungary, spending three years with top-flight side Haladas.
Williams has two Socceroos caps, the most recent of which was earned in 2010. His deal in Wellington is for one year.
Nichols and Williams join English defender Steven Taylor and Polish goalkeeper Filip Kurto as new additions to coach Mark Rudan's Phoenix squad, with the roster now 15-strong.
Another Pole, midfielder Michal Kopczynski is on his way to Wellington and will be unveiled in the coming days.
The squad will shortly spend 10 days at a training camp on Australia's Gold Coast, including a game against fellow A-League side Brisbane Roar. Rudan's first competitive game in charge will be the FFA Cup tie against Victorian state league side Bentleigh Greens on Tuesday August 7.
