Esports: Is a grand final rematch on the cards at HSL?

Mt Albert Grammar and Mt Roskill Grammar can create a grand final rematch of the HSL when the semifinals begin today.

Mt Albert and Mt Roskill have been close rivals since the HSL began last year, although Mt Roskill have enjoyed the better of the results.

Mt Roskill will meet Rangitoto College in their semifinal after they eased past Burnside High School 2-0 last week. The HSL's knockout matches are played across a best-of-three format.

Auckland's Mt Roskill won the first two splits of the HSL's Premier Division last year and they're keen to add another inscription to the shield.

They've been able to call upon the services of former professional player Vincent "Kedu" Feng this season.

Feng's presence ensured they went unbeaten during the round robin and they'll enter the semifinal stages of the competition as the favourite.

In today's televised game that will get underway live on Sky at 5pm, Mt Albert will play Wellington's Tawa College.

Tawa College have used a range of unique tactics during the split and their creative play in League of Legends has had their opponents guessing.

This style of play has earned them a strong fan following and tonight's contest will also be streamed online on Twitch.

Mt Albert were a dominant side during pool play and only lost one match, against Mt Roskill.

Tawa, who went 5-1 during the round robin, beat Howick College 2-1 in their quarter-final last week to advance to the semifinals.

In the Challenger Division, Mt Roskill can make it a great week for their esports programme as they tackle Whangaparaoa College in their semifinal.

Mt Roskill beat New Plymouth Boys' High School 2-0 in their quarter-final last week.
On the other side of the draw, Manuwera High School will face ACG Senior Challenger 1.

Manuwera, who finished 5-1 during the round robin of the competition, beat Inglewood High School 2-0 in their quarter-final to book their spot in the final four.
